Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of 2023.
The win also indicates he has won 21 championships at 21 different events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.
Moutet saved four early-game break points in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
